Khaberni - A sudden choking incident while driving turned into a serious collision in the state of Ohio, USA, after a woman lost consciousness behind the wheel due to choking on a piece of french fry, which led to her car crashing into a gas station and causing partial collapse of the site.
According to police reports, the woman, whose identity was not publicly disclosed, was driving her car in Wilmington, Ohio, when she choked on food and lost consciousness while driving, as reported by "People" magazine citing a report issued by Wilmington police.
The driver explained to the police that she first collided with another parked car before hitting a pole belonging to the gas station, around 12 noon local time. WXIX reports stated that the car, a 2016 Buick Le Sabre, hit a pole connected to the station's canopy, causing a partial collapse of its structure, according to an eyewitness account.
Despite the severity of the accident, no human injuries have been recorded so far, and the police confirmed that the woman reported not remembering the moment of the collision, indicating that she suffers from throat dryness making her prone to choking, according to reports from WLWT 5 and WXIX based on the police report.
A citation was issued to the driver for failing to control the vehicle, with no criminal charges announced so far.
Following the accident, the Wilmington Fire Department contacted a building inspector to assess the damages, while the local newspaper reported that the gas station was temporarily closed until further notice. Neither the Wilmington Police nor the Fire Department have issued any official comments in response to requests for comment.
