World Food Programme Distributes 625 Million School Meals in Jordan

Khaberni - The World Food Programme, in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, distributed more than 6.25 million healthy school meals during the first semester of the 2025–2026 school year, benefiting about 115,000 students in camps and host communities across various provinces of the kingdom.

According to a report by the World Food Programme in Jordan, the program included providing complete nutritional meals within schools, alongside distributing about 800 metric tons of fortified date bars, reaching nearly 400,000 students in schools located within local communities.

The program confirmed that school feeding will resume at the beginning of the second semester on February 1, 2026, as part of its efforts to support academic achievement and improve children's nutritional status, especially in areas most affected by economic and humanitarian challenges.

The report indicated that nutrition and education programs are implemented in the face of increasing financial challenges faced by the World Food Programme in Jordan, where the net funding needs of the program from January to June 2026 amount to about 51.4 million dollars, within total requirements estimated at 169.5 million dollars for the year 2026.

The report clarified that the lack of funding is not only limited to relief programs but also reflects on the social protection and school nutrition programs, which are considered fundamental pillars for investing in human capital, especially among children from refugee families and the poorest Jordanian families.

The school nutrition program is implemented under the country strategic plan of the World Food Programme in Jordan for the years 2023–2027, which aims to improve food security and enhance the capacity of national institutions to provide sustainable nutrition programs for children in fragile environments.
