Kurdish SelfAdministration AlSharaas Decree on Kurdish Rights is a First Step That Does Not Meet Syrian Aspirations

Khaberni - The Kurdish Self-Administration on Saturday described the decree issued by Syrian President Ahmad Al-Sharaa on Kurdish rights as a "first step" but "does not meet the aspirations of the Syrian people," according to a statement.

On Friday, Al-Sharaa issued a decree declaring the Kurdish language as a "national language" and the Nowruz holiday as a "national holiday" for the first time since Syria's independence in 1946, in addition to granting all Kurds residing in Syria its citizenship.

The Self-Administration in northern and eastern Syria commented on the decree stating that "rights are not preserved by temporary decrees" but "by constitutions that reflect the will of all peoples and components."

The statement saw that the "radical solution" to the issue of rights and freedoms is in a "decentralized democratic constitution," calling for a "comprehensive national dialogue" on the matter.
