Humanlike robots autonomously conversing for two hours for the first time

Khaberni - The human-like robot company Realbotix showcased at the Consumer Electronics Show this month what it described as one of the first fully autonomous, unscripted conversations between two real humanoid robots operating entirely on built-in artificial intelligence.

This conversation occurred live at the show floor between the humanoid robots David and Aria, where they engaged in a continuous, realistic conversation lasting over two hours without human intervention, pre-written script, or remote operation.

According to the company, both robots operated the Realbotix's artificial intelligence software locally on the device, rather than relying on cloud processing, according to a report by the specialized technology and engineering news site "Interesting Engineering" reviewed by "Alarabiya Business".

The exhibition served as an example of "evolved artificial intelligence," where two systems embodied in physical form interact with each other in real-time, respond to each other, and adapt to each other, instead of following pre-programmed dialogue paths.

Andrew Keegle, CEO of Realbotix, said: "Realbotix specializes in robots designed for human interaction. In this case, we demonstrated that our robots can interact with each other," adding: "This is a true demonstration of embodied AI at work, with unscripted interactions lasting over two hours."

During the exhibition, the robots Aria and David held a conversation in multiple languages, including English, Spanish, French, and German. Realbotix said this showcased both the linguistic capabilities of its models and the flexibility of the built-in AI platform.

The dialogue proceeded smoothly, as the robots took their time to respond to each other's statements instead of following a fixed dialogical structure.

However, visually and in terms of facial expressions, the performance of the robots remained limited and certainly does not compare with prominent human-like robot displays such as Ameca, which features strikingly realistic facial expressions and smooth movement.

Even compared with everyday voice assistants based on artificial intelligence like "GPT-4o", Realbotix's robots appeared more mechanical, with restricted expressions and speech, and online viewers of the dialogue described the robots as "rubber dolls equipped"
