Foods that increase the risk of cancer after the age of fifty

Khaberni - Dr. Preeti Subhedar, from Hackensack University Medical Center, reported that white bread, white rice, cakes, and sweetened sodas might increase the risk of cancer after the age of fifty.

According to her, the mentioned foods cause a sharp increase in blood sugar levels, stimulating the production of insulin and insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1), which is involved in regulating cell division, and its chronic high levels increase the likelihood of uncontrolled cancer cell growth.

In addition, refined carbohydrates contribute to chronic inflammation and an increase in free radicals, which damage cells and DNA. After the age of fifty, metabolic and hormonal changes increase the body's sensitivity to these effects, making the role of nutrition in cancer prevention very important.

The doctor recommends, as an alternative, following a diet based on whole grains, vegetables, fruits, legumes, healthy fats, and lean protein, because this diet helps maintain stable blood sugar levels, reduce inflammation, and provides the body with antioxidants that help protect cells from damage.

At the same time, the doctor emphasizes that this does not mean completely eliminating certain foods, but rather reducing their proportion in the daily diet as part of a long-term strategy to reduce the risk of cancer.
