Ibrahimović to Ajax for 6 months officially

Khaberni -  Maximilian Ibrahimović, the eldest son of former Swedish international Zlatan Ibrahimović, has transferred to Ajax, record holder of Dutch football league titles, on loan from AC Milan, the club announced Wednesday.

Ajax said in a statement that Maximilian (19 years old), who plays as a striker, has moved on a six-month loan "until the end of the season. The agreement includes an option to make the deal permanent."

Maximilian has been playing with Milan’s reserve team, where his father played with the first team for two stints (2010 to 2012 and 2020 to 2023), since 2022.

The club's director of football, Maraiyn Boijker, said, "Initially, (Maximilian) will mainly get playing minutes with the Ajax Under-23 team, and will regularly move between the Under-23 and the first team throughout the season, to get accustomed to the higher level and pace of play at Ajax."

In turn, Maximilian who follows in the footsteps of his father Zlatan, a two-time winner of the Dutch league title with Ajax during his first professional stints outside Sweden, stated, "I am an individual and a player in my own right, and I want to write my own story."

He added, "It's great that my father also played for Ajax. I am happy to have the opportunity here to continue my development (but) I am here to do my own things and very excited about that."

Maximilian, whose younger brother Vincent also plays with Milan’s reserve team, added, "Ibrahimović is just a name. I am Maximilian. We are completely different."

The Ajax first team is struggling this season, currently in third place in the league, 16 points behind the leader PSV Eindhoven, and also failed to achieve more than three points in the Champions League after six rounds.

It is worth noting that Ibrahimović Sr. retired from the field after a career full of achievements, announcing his retirement from football at the end of the 2022-2023 season with his team Milan.

Ibrahimović won league titles in four different countries, starting with the Dutch league with Ajax in 2001-2002 and 2003-2004, then the Italian league with Juventus in the 2004-2005 and 2005-2006 seasons, although Juventus was later stripped of those titles.
