Faisal AlFayez Calls for Increased American Aid to Face Challenges

Khaberni - The President of the Senate, Faisal Al-Fayez, met at his office in the House of Senate on Wednesday with the American Ambassador to the Kingdom, Jim Holtsnider.

Al-Fayez discussed with the American Ambassador, in the presence of Suheir Al-Ali, the Assistant President of the Senate and head of the Jordanian-American Parliamentary Friendship Committee, the aspects of bilateral relations and ways to enhance them in various fields, in addition to the current situation in the region and issues of mutual interest.

Al-Fayez emphasized the importance of strategic relations between the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and the United States, pointing to the importance of developing these relations and building on them across various political, economic, and investment fields, serving the interests of both friendly countries.

Al-Fayez valued the aid provided by the United States to Jordan, calling for an increase to enable Jordan to face economic challenges imposed by surrounding events and conflicts, and to continue its pivotal role in working for peace and stability in the region, and in hosting Syrian refugees and others on its territory.

The meeting touched on the importance of intensifying efforts for peace and stability in the region, enabling its people to live in security and stability, and the necessity of Israel committing to implementing all clauses of the ceasefire agreement in Gaza, presented by President Donald Trump, agreed upon by all concerned parties and widely supported internationally, urging mediators to press Israel to move to the second phase of the "Gaza Agreement" and enable humanitarian aid to enter the Gaza Strip.

Al-Fayez presented the Jordanian position on various regional issues, stating that His Majesty King Abdullah II consistently affirms that the two-state solution, based on international legitimacy resolutions related to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, is the guarantee for the return of security and stability to the region.

During the meeting, it was emphasized that Jordan rejects any solutions to the Palestinian issue that compromise its national constants, as well as rejects any impairment of the Hashemite custodianship of Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, or changes to the legal and historical status quo in the holy city.

In a separate meeting, the Jordanian-American Parliamentary Friendship Committee discussed with the American ambassador the overall issues of mutual interest, and exchanged views on developments in the region, in addition to ways to enhance Jordanian-American relations in various fields.

Al-Ali stated that the bilateral relations between Jordan and the United States are historical and solid, spanning 77 years of joint cooperation, reflecting the depth of the political and diplomatic ties between the two friendly countries.

She praised the Memorandum of Understanding on the Strategic Partnership between the United States and Jordan, which extends for 7 years (2023-2029), with an annual support value of 1.45 billion US dollars annually, plus an additional support of 200 million dollars annually.

Al-Ali highlighted the importance of this support in assisting Jordan's economic modernization program and funding vital sectors such as water, information technology, and major projects.

She addressed Jordan's role, led by His Majesty King Abdullah II, in supporting the issues of the region to achieve security, stability, and peace, particularly the Palestinian issue, emphasizing the Jordanian position that stands against Israeli violations and attempts to annex the West Bank, as they constitute a breach of international law and a threat to the prospects for peace.

The Senate members of the committee emphasized the importance of working to enhance political, economic, and investment cooperation, along with supporting parliamentary cooperation, as this plays a role in solidifying institutional relations between the two countries, calling for continued communication and consultation and holding meaningful meetings to enhance cooperation in various fields.
