SDF imposes curfew in Raqqa after withdrawing its forces from Aleppo

Khaberni - The Internal Security Forces of the Democratic Forces of Syria (SDF) announced on Tuesday the imposition of a partial curfew throughout the Raqqa governorate in northern Syria, a step attributed to "public interest requirements and concern for the safety of the residents."

According to the body's directive, the curfew runs daily from 10 PM until 6 AM starting January 13th, 2026, until further notice, with emphasis on subjecting violators to legal accountability.

This security measure comes after rapid field developments, where groups of SDF fighters left the "Sheikh Maqsood" neighborhood in the city of Aleppo last Saturday towards the city of Al-Tabqah in Raqqa, pursuant to an agreement with the Syrian army that allowed them to move towards their strongholds in the northeast of the country.

The recent days had witnessed fierce clashes between the two sides, ending with the SDF's loss of the Ashrafieh district and then the Sheikh Maqsood, thus turning the page on their military presence inside the city of Aleppo.

The two sides exchanged accusations over the responsibility for the eruption of the situation that began last Tuesday before the Syrian army declared its full control over the mentioned districts.

It is noted that the SDF controls about one-third of Syrian territory, mostly concentrated east of the Euphrates River, including the most important sources of energy and agricultural lands, in addition to strategic dams such as the "Al-Tabqah" and "Al-Baath" dams in Raqqa governorate, and the "Tishreen" dam in Aleppo governorate.
