Khaberni - Failed and imperfect haircuts may become a thing of the past, after a startup launched a razor that operates using artificial intelligence.
GLYDE unveiled the new hair razor during the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, describing it as the "world's first smart hair razor." The device aims to enable users to cut their hair professionally, even if they are total beginners.
The razor relies on "haircut coach" technology powered by artificial intelligence, along with an "automatic blending" feature, which allows for complex haircuts in just one pass.
After selecting the desired style via a smartphone app, the user runs the razor over their head, the blades automatically adjust the cutting depth and move mechanically to match the design.
The razor is equipped with sensors that track the user's movement and blade angle, while internal motors automatically adjust the blades' position to ensure the right length, regardless of how the razor is held. To ensure cut accuracy, the user wears a special headband that serves as a fixed reference point to determine where the blending starts.
The GLYDE also includes additional safety features; if the angle or speed of the cut changes suddenly, the blades retract automatically, and if the razor is used incorrectly, the blades will not operate at all. The razor includes a display that shows information about the cutting area and blade depth, as well as a level to ensure it is held straight.
Currently, cuts can be chosen from a pre-prepared library, which GLYDE states has been "tested on various head shapes," but the company plans to allow for the future download of custom templates and inspiration from other users' designs. Future updates will also enable beard and body hair cutting, as well as voice control features powered by artificial intelligence.
Shipments of the razor are expected to begin this summer at a price of around 150 US dollars, and it will be available through the company's official website and a number of electronic retail stores.
