Khaberni - Meta Platforms announced on Monday the appointment of Dina Powell McCormick as the company's President and Vice Chairman of its Board of Directors, thereby becoming the first person to hold the position of Meta's President since its founding, in a significant move that reflects major transformations within one of the world's largest technology companies.

The appointment of Dina Powell McCormick bears special significance, as she is an Egyptian-American, highlighting the presence of talents with Arab origins in general, and Egyptian in particular, within the largest global technology companies. Dina Powell McCormick had joined Meta’s Board of Directors in April, before submitting her resignation in December, according to an official filing submitted to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.

In her new role, the company clarified that Powell McCormick will become a member of the executive management team, and will participate directly in formulating Meta’s strategy and overseeing its implementation in the coming phase.

In commenting on the decision, Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, said that Dina Powell's experience at the highest global financial levels, along with her extensive global connections network, qualifies her to play a pivotal role in leading the company during the upcoming growth phase, describing her appointment as a strategic addition to the high management.

Zuckerberg confirmed that Powell McCormick will be involved in all of Meta's key files, with a special focus on collaborating with governments and nations, to build, deploy, and fund investments in artificial intelligence and the company’s infrastructure, marking a step that reflects the escalating bet on this sector as a main growth driver for the coming years.

Powell McCormick possesses a distinguished professional record, having held high leadership positions at Goldman Sachs for 16 years, as well as serving as a deputy to the National Security Advisor during President Donald Trump’s first term, before later resigning from Meta’s Board of Directors.
