Khaberni - Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs and Holy Sites, Mohammed Al-Khalayleh, stated that random disposal of waste contradicts the teachings of Islam, pointing out that the ministry has a plan for raising awareness in this regard.
Al-Khalayleh added that the Ministry of Awqaf has prepared a comprehensive plan that includes awareness lessons and emphasizes the importance of cleanliness in Friday sermons, in addition to setting up summer Quran centers under the theme 'Cleanliness is part of faith', to instill the values and importance of cleanliness among the attendees of these centers.
The government announced on Sunday the start of the national executive program for the cleanliness strategy and the reduction of random waste dumping for the years 2026-2027, in a step that reflects a comprehensive national commitment to protecting public health and the environment by improving the general level of cleanliness in various provinces of the kingdom.
The executive program is based on four main pillars addressing the phenomenon of random waste dumping through a comprehensive system of regulatory, technical, supervisory, and awareness measures, which were designed based on a realistic assessment of needs and challenges in different areas, and relies on a comprehensive approach that integrates environmental and developmental policies, embedding principles of sustainability and resource conservation, improving the quality of life for citizens, consolidating Jordan's position as a tourism destination, reducing waste management costs, and stimulating the circular economy.
The executive program for the cleanliness strategy and the reduction of random waste dumping (2026-2027) was approved by the Cabinet, and a ministerial committee was formed chaired by the Minister of Environment and consisting of the ministers of: Local Administration, Public Works and Housing, Government Communication, Education and Higher Education and Scientific Research, Awqaf and Islamic Affairs and Holy Sites, Interior, Finance, Agriculture, Tourism and Antiquities, the Chairman of the Amman Committee, and the Director of Public Security.
The committee is responsible for monitoring and supervising the implementation of the program and submitting periodic reports to the Cabinet on the progress of work according to the specified timeline to achieve the program's goals, ensuring coordination and integration between the concerned parties, measuring performance indicators, assessing the environmental and behavioral impact of the measures taken, and introducing necessary improvements to ensure effective and sustainable results.
