Jordan Meteorology publishes a warning map and identifies areas of potential flash floods

Khaberni - The Meteorological Administration published an updated warning map for tomorrow, Friday, 9/1/2026, warning citizens of the effects of an expected low pressure system, which may cause flash floods in various areas of the kingdom, especially in the western and central regions.

The map showed a clear classification of warning levels using colors, with the areas colored in red at the highest warning degrees, indicating a high warning that necessitates extreme caution and taking necessary safety measures.

The Meteorological Department stated that the kingdom gradually starts to be affected from the morning of Friday by a low pressure system accompanied by a cold and humid air mass, leading to a noticeable decrease in temperatures, with cold and partly cloudy weather that will turn to cloudy.

It added that rains will start falling in the north of the kingdom and parts of the central regions, before later extending to most regions, while a cold air front crosses the kingdom during the afternoon hours, accompanied by occasional heavy rainfalls, especially in the north, central, and southwestern areas, including the Jordan Valley and the Dead Sea, which might be accompanied by thunder and hail.

The Administration warned of the danger of flash floods occurring in valleys and low-lying areas, and rising water levels, urging citizens to stay away from flood paths and not risk crossing areas where rainwater accumulates, and also noted the danger of reduced horizontal visibility due to fog and low clouds, in addition to the activity of west to northwest winds, which may reach gusts up to 65 km/h.

It pointed out that the intensity of the rainfalls would weaken during the night hours, with the possibility of light and intermittent showers of rain mixed with snow for a short period during the late-night hours and dawn on Saturday on the peaks of the Sharah mountains.
