Khaberni - French authorities announced the cancellation of about 140 flights in the capital Paris on Wednesday morning due to snowfall and bitter cold, including about 100 flights at Charles de Gaulle Airport and 40 flights at Orly Airport.
The French Minister of Transport, Philippe Tabarot, told CNews that the disruptions had been anticipated since Tuesday evening, expressing hope for a return to normalcy during the afternoon.
Ground transportation was also affected, with all public bus services in Paris and its suburbs suspended due to icy roads, while metro networks and suburban trains continued to operate almost normally, according to transportation officials.
In this context, the French meteorological agency "Météo France" reported that 38 out of 96 departments in the country were placed on alert due to heavy snowfall and the formation of black ice, with snow accumulation ranging between 3 and 7 centimeters. The agency confirmed that this cold wave was "unusually severe for this season."
Authorities urged residents of the Paris region to avoid unnecessary travel and to work from home as much as possible, while weather-related accidents took the lives of six people in France during this winter's European cold wave.
