Khaberni - In the framework of Amman Arab University's ongoing efforts to promote public safety culture and apply quality standards in the educational and scientific research environment, the College of Pharmacy organized a specialized training course titled: "Handling Chemicals and General Safety in Laboratories" for students of the College of Pharmacy and the College of Applied Medical Sciences. The course was presented by Dr. Adel Ardakani, a faculty member at the College of Pharmacy and an expert in laboratory safety and chemical management, who has extensive experience in dealing with safety systems and risk management in educational institutions.
The workshop aimed to enhance students' awareness of preventive measures that ensure their safety and the safety of staff, maintaining a safe and organized educational environment. The course featured a blend of theoretical presentation and interactive discussion, which provided participants the opportunity to acquire practical skills that can be directly applied in the daily work environment inside the laboratories.
The training course covered a range of advanced scientific and practical topics, including the basics of safe handling of chemicals, their classification according to the degrees of hazard, and the proper preparation methods during laboratory experiments. It also addressed immediate response mechanisms to accidents and chemical spills within laboratories. The course focused on principles of chemical safety according to global environmental and health standards and trained participants on emergency procedures and first aid in case of incidents such as injuries from broken glass or hazardous material spills. The course also included a presentation and study of real accident cases to enhance readiness and efficiency in dealing with emergencies, such as the ammonia gas leak incident at a school laboratory and also discussed the risks of carbon monoxide poisoning and the safety of using heating methods, as these are recurrent incidents during the winter season, in addition to warning against the dangers of mixing cleaning materials and the hazards of such practices on health and general safety.
In this regard, Professor Dr. Rana Abu Howij, the Dean of the College of Pharmacy at Amman Arab University, stated that this course comes as part of the college's strategic plan to develop a safe and sustainable working and learning environment, emphasizing that the safety of the students and workers is a top priority for the university. She noted that the College of Pharmacy at Amman Arab University continuously strives to organize workshops and training courses that reinforce the university's commitment to safe and responsible educational practices.
For his part, Dr. Adel Ardakani expressed his pleasure with the positive interaction from the participants, praising the College of Pharmacy's commitment to spreading community awareness and the important role of the pharmacist in educating about all health matters that protect the citizen and contribute to their health safety.
