Khaberni - Two people were killed and four others were injured in the collapse of a three-story house in the Moroccan capital Rabat, yesterday, Monday, according to Moroccan authorities.
According to the same source, a partial collapse of a house in the Akkari district, which consists of a commercial shop on the ground floor and two residential floors occupied by a single family, required the intervention of security services and civil defense forces to secure the perimeter of the house and the neighboring houses in anticipation of more victims falling.
Search and rescue operations continue in case there are other victims trapped under the debris under strict guard by security forces that have cordoned off the scene.
One day before, another house collapsed in the ancient Mellah neighborhood in the city of Essaouira, resulting in the death of a woman and her four-month-old infant. Similar incidents have been recorded in different areas due to heavy rains that the kingdom has experienced for weeks.
The exceptional weather conditions, unprecedented in Morocco for decades, led to the suspension of schooling as a precaution in a number of cities, particularly in the southern regions as Hurricane Francis approaches.
The cities affected by weather warnings witnessed emergency situations among the civil defense forces, local authorities, security forces, and the army in preparation for the urgent intervention to evacuate residents, especially in areas adjacent to valleys, dams, and dilapidated houses.
