Jordan conducts talks with Iraq to renew the oil import agreement

Khaberni - The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources disclosed that talks are ongoing with the Iraqi side to renew the memorandum of understanding between the two countries for importing Iraqi oil for an additional year.

This comes after the expiry of the previous memorandum of understanding which ended on June 26, 2025, and was extended until the end of last year.

The Ministry clarified in response to inquiries from "the Kingdom," that it aims to renew the oil import memorandum with the same terms and specifications as the previous agreement, enhancing the cooperative energy relations between the two countries.

The Ministry mentioned that the Jordanian Petroleum Refinery in Zarqa received 891,388 barrels of Iraqi crude oil, during the period from October 5 to December 31, 2025,, continuing under the previous memorandum signed between the governments of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and the Republic of Iraq, which was extended on September 17, last year.

According to the memorandum, this action is to complete the quantities not loaded in the past due to logistical reasons, where loading resumed on October 5 this year and concluded on December 31, 2025.

This step comes within the framework of bolstering the ongoing cooperation between Jordan and Iraq in the energy sector, solidifying the economic relations between the two brotherly countries, serving mutual interests, and contributing to the energy security of the Kingdom.
