The African Union calls on Israel to cancel its recognition of Somaliland

Khaberni - The Peace and Security Council of the African Union today, Tuesday, called on Israel to “immediately cancel” its recognition of Somaliland.

In a statement on the platform "X" following a ministerial meeting, the council strongly condemned "in the strongest terms the unilateral recognition of what is called the Republic of Somaliland by Israel," calling on it to immediately retract.

Earlier, the Israeli Foreign Ministry announced today, Tuesday, that Foreign Minister Gideon Saar has carried out his first official diplomatic visit to Hargeisa, the capital of Somaliland, at the invitation of the President of Somaliland. The visit was conducted in complete secrecy according to the instructions of the security officials, according to the Israeli media.

Channel 14 Israeli reported that Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar arrived in the capital Hargeisa with an Israeli delegation. Saar is expected to meet with the local leadership, following Israel’s recognition of the state, which is actually the first official recognition of Somaliland's independence.
It confirmed that the discussions will focus, according to reports, on bilateral cooperation, particularly in the fields of security and political relations. Somaliland may allow Israel to use specific areas on its territory for potential military purposes, including the establishment of defense facilities.

The Israeli Broadcasting Authority reported that the President of Somaliland, Abdulrahman Mohamed, announces that he will visit Israel and an embassy will be opened in Israel
