Khaberni - In a shocking incident witnessed by one of the primary schools in the Gharbia governorate in Egypt, the life of a student nearly ended tragically after she was left alone inside the classroom, with the iron doors between the floors closed after the students and staff were dismissed before the official time.
The Egyptian Administrative Prosecution issued a decision to refer four officials from the school to urgent disciplinary investigation, namely: the school principal, the general director of the educational administration, the school deputy, and one of the teachers, on the grounds of gross negligence that nearly cost the child's life.
The details revealed that the girl tried to jump from the first floor after finding herself trapped in the classroom, and fell unconscious in the schoolyard, remaining in that state for about 7 hours before she was found, amid great shock for everyone.
The investigations indicated that the school principal issued instructions to dismiss the students and staff before the end of the official hours without assigning supervision on the floors, while the general director of the educational administration did not take any action despite being informed of the incident. The deputy principal tampered with the attendance and departure logs, and the class teacher departed without making sure the classroom was empty of the student.
Fortunately, the child was transported to the hospital for medical checkup as soon as she was found, while the authorities documented the incident formally.
An inspection committee confirmed that all the organizational procedures for student safety were not applied, preventing her safe exit from the building. This led to the dismissal of the director and the former general director, and the referral of all the accused to urgent disciplinary trial, with the administrative authority tasked with monitoring schools to ensure full compliance with safety procedures and to prevent the recurrence of such incidents.
