Real Madrid Refused to Sign Van Dijk This Summer

Khaberni - Media reports revealed new information that Virgil van Dijk was close to moving to Real Madrid during the past summer transfer period.

The Spanish newspaper Marca mentioned that in a move that could have been one of the most significant deals of the Mercato if it had happened, where the Dutch defender, Liverpool captain and one of the most prominent defensive names in European football, was strongly considered by the royal club.

It explained: "According to information, Van Dijk's agents initiated contact with Real Madrid's management to explore the club's stance on the idea of signing him, as the Merengue were looking to strengthen their defense with elements capable of making an immediate impact, however, the response was not as expected by the player’s entourage, as the management Madrid favored a younger option."

It continued: "Real Madrid chose to bet on Dean Huisen, as part of its ongoing policy of investing in rising talents and building a team for the future, even if it meant foregoing signing ready and experienced names at the highest European levels."

It further stated: "This decision reflects a clear conviction within the club about the need to maintain a balance between immediate quality and long-term sustainability."

It concluded: "Despite the deal's failure last summer, Van Dijk does not close the door on the idea of wearing the Real Madrid shirt in the near future, as the Dutch defender recognizes the Spanish club's status and allure to any player, and he sees the move to La Liga as a potential new challenge at an advanced stage of his career."
