Khaberni - U.S. Attorney General Pamela Bondi announced today, Saturday, that Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, who was arrested by U.S. forces, and his wife will face charges related to drugs and "terrorism" in a U.S. court.
The U.S. Attorney General wrote on the X social media platform that "charges have been directed at Nicolas Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, in the Southern District of New York".
She added that "these charges include conspiracy to commit drug terrorism crimes, conspiracy to import cocaine, possession of machine guns and destructive devices, and conspiracy to possess machine guns and destructive devices against the United States. Maduro and his wife will soon be tried in American courts on American soil".
The American network "CNN" quoted a source as saying that "the arrest of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro paves the way for his trial in the United States".
She added that the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) has tracked Maduro's location after permission from President Donald Trump to conduct a secret operation inside Venezuela for months.
Meanwhile, the Venezuelan Attorney General demanded proof that President Maduro and his wife are alive, holding Washington responsible for their safety.
Explosions Followed by Arrest
A series of explosions were witnessed in the Venezuelan capital early this morning, Saturday, followed by the announcement of the arrest of the Venezuelan President by the United States.
Trump announced that the United States successfully executed a large-scale strike against Venezuela and its leadership. He clarified that President Maduro and his wife were arrested and air-transferred out of Venezuela.
He added that the operation was carried out in coordination with U.S. law enforcement agencies.
