New York in Green to Celebrate Muslim American Heritage

Khaberni - Last night, New York Governor Kathy Hochul issued a proclamation declaring January as Muslim American Heritage Month throughout the state and directed the lighting of 16 state landmarks in green on Friday evening "in celebration of the heritage and culture of Muslim Americans".

According to a statement, the landmarks illuminated in green last night include: the World Trade Center Tower, the Governor Mario Cuomo Bridge, the Kosciuszko Bridge, SUNY University Building, the State Education Building, the State Office Building (Alfred Smith), the Empire State Plaza Building, the State Expo Fair, the Franklin D. Roosevelt Bridge, Grand Central Station, Albany International Airport, Penn Station, the Airport Bridge, Moynihan Train Hall, Roosevelt Island Lighthouse, and Niagara Falls.

On this occasion, Governor Hochul said, "As the home of the largest number of Muslim Americans in the country, New York is proud to participate in this month-long celebration, recognizing the values, faith, and traditions of our Muslim American communities," affirming, "New York remains committed to being a beacon of hope, tolerance, and inclusion, celebrating the diversity of its Muslim American residents and protecting them from Islamophobia, hatred, bias, and harm."
