Khaberni - The investigative authorities in Egypt issued a decision to refer a driver of a private school bus to the criminal court following his accusation of sexually assaulting 3 students inside the bus.
This shocking incident occurs within a context of several similar incidents that were recently uncovered and for which the Egyptian courts issued prompt and deterrent sentences, including the death penalty, sending a message to the community and perpetrators not to be lenient in crimes of this nature that have terrified parents.
The school bus driver of Qaitbay International in Cairo was arrested a few days ago, then released after investigations showed the accusations of raping 3 students inside the school bus were initially unfounded, but the forensic report turned things around and confirmed their validity.
The forensic report revealed that the samples taken from the accused matched those taken from the students' clothes, and there were traces found on their clothes, supporting the accusations against the driver.
The Egyptian Penal Code prescribes the death penalty or life imprisonment for sexual assault crimes on females.
The sentence can be death if the victim was a minor who has not reached 18 full calendar years of age, or if the perpetrator is a relative of the victim, one of those in charge of her upbringing or supervision, someone who has authority over her, a paid servant at her place, or in the event of multiple perpetrators of the crime.
In December of last year, the Alexandria Criminal Court ruled to refer the papers of a worker accused of indecent exposure of a number of children at an international school to the Republic’s Grand Mufti to seek a Sharia opinion on his execution, only 10 days after the case was heard.
