For 140000 The most beautiful British coin shatters records at a public auction

Khaberni - A British coin, classified as the "most beautiful" ever in the history of the United Kingdom, reached an amount of 110,000 pounds sterling (about $140,000) at a public auction held recently, confirming its status as one of the most valuable historical treasures in the coinage world.

This gold coin of the "five pounds" denomination, known as "Una and the Lion," was part of a private collection found by chance while assessing an estate in a house near the area of "Bangor" in the county of "Gwynedd."

The exceptional value of this piece is due to its extreme rarity; it was never issued for public circulation and less than 300 copies were made in 1839 to commemorate the beginning of Queen Victoria's reign.

Artistic and Historical Representation
The coin depicts the late Queen Victoria as "Lady Una," a fictional character inspired by Edmund Spenser's famous 16th-century poem "The Faerie Queene," symbolizing righteousness and purity.

This design is a historical precedent, as it was the first time a British monarch was depicted as a fictional character on an official currency.

The design, created by "William Wyon," the chief engraver of the Royal Mint in the 19th century, shows the queen leading a lion symbolizing British national strength and leadership balance under her rule.

Auction Details
Rogers Jones and Co, the auction house, described the coin as the "precious gem" and the primary demand of coin collectors, due to it being a unique blend of literature, art, and royal history.

"Charles Hampshire," the auction manager in Chester, stated: "The original rarity of these coins means that they only appear at auctions very rarely, which explains the broad international interest they attract."

Despite "minor scratches from handling" and some fine marks according to an independent expert report from the British Numismatic Trade Association, the piece maintained an impressive aesthetic appearance, which drove bidders to compete strongly for it.

It is noted that the record price for a copy of the "Una and the Lion" coin previously reached 340,000 pounds sterling, making this type of coin among the most valuable and demanded in international markets due to its exceptional cultural and aesthetic importance.
