One of the fans criticized Aubameyang and said that he abandoned his teammates midway through the tournament despite being the team captain, but the Marseille striker replied saying, "It seems you are not focused, be strong".
The Gabon national team was also knocked out earlier from the African playoff preliminary to the global playoff for the 2026 World Cup in America, Mexico, and Canada, following their defeat against Nigeria 0-1.
