Syrian Security Captures a Group from the Coastal Shield Militia

Khaberni - On Thursday, the Syrian security apparatus arrested a group from the remnants of the ousted regime, which it said belonged to what is called the "Coastal Shield" militia, during a security operation in Latakia Governorate in the northwest of the country.

The official Syrian news channel quoted an unnamed security source that among the detained group members was someone described as "the terrorist known as Lieutenant Abbas, involved in criminal activities and serious violations".

The internal security directorates in Latakia and the areas of Jableh and Qardaha, on Wednesday, detained several individuals involved in war crimes and provocative acts that threatened civil peace in the provinces of Latakia and Tartus, according to the same source.

These arrests, as officially announced by the Ministry of Interior, were the result of "security operations carried out by the security directorates in cooperation with the Counter-Terrorism Branch, following external incendiary calls of a sectarian nature".

While the channel did not mention any details about the “terrorist” organization, in February 2025, a person named Muqdad Fateeha appeared on social media to announce the establishment of a new military militia in Syria named “Coastal Shield Brigade”.

In a recorded video, he stated that he established this brigade to “protect the children of the Alawite community in the Syrian coast”, and this military formation appeared during the coastal events on March 7th, targeting civilians and security personnel, resulting in dozens of deaths and injuries.

These operations came days after gunmen targeted security elements on Sunday while they were protecting demonstrations in cities along the Syrian coast and in the center of the country, called for by the spiritual authority of the Alawite community, demanding federalism, which resulted in 4 dead and 108 injured among the security forces and civilians in Latakia.
