Social media users shared a funny video showing thieves from an armed gang who robbed a German bank and carefully paid the parking fees, despite fleeing with a loot estimated at about 30 million British pounds from the bank's vault.
The circulated footage showed a masked man wearing a grey sweater and a black mask, calmly inserting coins into the parking meter, one after the other.
Moments later, the thief returned to add more money, making sure to pay the full required amount, oblivious to the fact that he had just left the bank's vault in the city of Gelsenkirchen with a huge loot.
The clip of paying the parking fee sparked notable interaction as being the most bizarre detail of the operation, turning the scene into a subject for jokes and humorous comments, as many saw the thieves' commitment to paying parking fees as contradictory to the nature of the crime itself.
In a related context, the gang, consisting of about 3 people, carried out the robbery through the bank's parking lot, where they breached several secured doors reaching a filing room adjacent to the vault.
The thieves used advanced industrial drilling equipment weighing 20 kilograms, equipped with a diamond-coated crown, through which they succeeded in breaching a concrete wall reinforced with a thickness of 18 inches, according to "The Sun" newspaper.
The operation took between two and four hours, and the criminals needed hoses and pumps to cool the drilling machine while it was working, and after breaching the wall, the gang emptied as many safety deposit boxes as possible before fleeing through the same hole.
The next morning, a number of clients gathered in front of the bank branch demanding a response to the incident, while the police confirmed that the fire alarm was the first to reveal the robbery after days had passed since the operation, noting that it is likely to have occurred during the Christmas holiday or the preceding weekend, making it one of the largest bank heists in modern German history.
