Jordan Details of the Weather Depression by Time and Expected Rainfall Amounts

Khaberni - The Kingdom is affected, God willing, by a new weather depression classified as a third degree (moderate - high effectiveness), which begins from the north of the Kingdom on Thursday morning 1 January 2026, and intensifies in the evening to include the central part of the Kingdom and the southwestern regions, especially Karak.

Timeline of the depression:

Morning until noon Thursday 1/1/2026:

Cold weather, and heavy rains fall on the north of the Kingdom causing significant flow in valleys and flash floods. Wind speed increases in most areas, with the rest of the regions being temporarily away from the rains, except for some central parts.

Thursday evening/night:

The impact of the depression extends to the central regions, including the capital Amman, Balqa, Zarqa, and Madaba, then gradually reaches Karak around midnight and dawn on Friday, with heavy rains at intervals and due to soil saturation from previous rains, it is expected:

1. Very high flow of valleys and streams.

2. Formation of floods and torrential floods, including in the northern and central Jordan Valley, and water accumulations on the roads.

3. Possibility of soil and rock drifts.

Dawn and morning of Friday:

The passage of the cold air front continues to the southern parts of the Kingdom, specifically Karak, the Dead Sea area, and the Jordan Valley, and heavy rains fall there and extend to Tafilah, with heavy rainfall causing continued risks of floods and valley flows and drifts of soil and rocks.

And in the rest of the northern and central areas, rain continues intermittently with the formation of dense fog over the mountainous elevations.

Friday daytime 2/1/2026:

The depression moves away from the Kingdom, and moist air currents continue to dominate with cold weather and clouds appearing at different altitudes, and the chances of rainfall continue intermittently in the north and central of the Kingdom and some southern highlands.

Friday night/Saturday:

Jordan is affected by the extension of the Siberian high pressure system, which weakens the chance of rains and reduces cloud cover, turning the weather very cold and bitterly cold in the deserts and Jabal Shara mountains, with widespread frost affecting agricultural areas inside and outside cities, except the Jordan Valley and Aqaba.

Expected rainfall amounts:

* Northern regions: 4080 mm, and may locally exceed more.

* Other regions: 1040 mm.

We ask God to make these rains of goodness and blessing, and may you remain in the protection of God.

We renew the alerts and recommendations on the need to:

1. Wear warm clothing especially in the mornings and nights.

2. Consider safe use of heating devices.

3. Drive carefully and maintain a safe distance during rains and fog.

4. Be aware of the danger of floods and flowing valleys, especially in low-lying areas and areas where floods typically form.

5. Be cautious of soil and rock landslides, especially in the southern highlands and slope and valley areas.

6. Be mindful of the dense fog and reduced horizontal visibility on external roads.
