Khaberni - Amman Arab University has achieved a milestone that adds to its record of academic and institutional achievements, as it ranks among the top 500 universities worldwide in the GreenMetric ranking GreenMetric for 2025, achieving the rank 422 globally among all universities and the seventh rank among all Jordanian universities.
In this regard, Professor Mohammed Al-Widian, President of Amman Arab University, emphasized the university’s role in meeting various ranking criteria, including sustainable development, noting that Amman Arab University hosts the Arab Council for Sustainable Development, an offshoot of the Association of Arab Universities, which was established by a decision from the Executive Council in 2021 with the aim of supporting the efforts of Arab universities to enhance sustainability and social responsibility, where the council works on establishing the concept of sustainable development, encouraging joint Arab action, and enabling the developmental role of higher education institutions, in addition to supporting initiatives related to the quality of education, development, women's empowerment, and promoting the concept of green universities, in addition to the university’s membership in the regional network for social responsibility, pointing out that this progress reflects Amman Arab University's commitment to implementing the best environmental practices, and enhancing the culture of sustainability within the university campus, in alignment with the university’s strategic vision and its goals in achieving sustainable development, and supporting national and global efforts in this field.
Al-Widian also confirmed that this achievement is the fruit of the combined efforts of its academic and administrative staff, and the ongoing work on developing environmental policies and initiatives, enhancing the university's local and international standing, and meeting the requirements of global rankings, lauding the university for obtaining advanced ranks in the ranking and appreciating the efforts of all the university staff for their follow-up on all standards and developing and implementing improvement plans.
It should be noted that Amman Arab University is currently implementing a set of qualitative initiatives aimed at enhancing environmental sustainability, through expanding green spaces, developing infrastructure, focusing on environmental protection, and providing clean energy sources, in addition to directing faculty members and students to engage more broadly in achieving sustainable development goals, whether in educational or research aspects, as the university seeks to enhance activities, agreements, projects, and strategic partnerships that serve sustainable development issues, in line with its institutional vision and future orientations.
It is worth mentioning that the GreenMetric ranking GreenMetric focuses on evaluating the performance of green universities and sustainable environment, and is based on six main criteria including: infrastructure, energy and climate change, management and treatment of solid and liquid waste, water resources management, sustainable transportation, and education and scientific research, each criterion includes a set of detailed indicators.
