Bakr Balawneh, the Assistant Secretary-General for Agricultural Guidance at the Ministry of Agriculture, said on Sunday that the rainfall contributes to washing the soil from excess salts, which positively reflects on the crops in terms of the quality and quantity of the products.
He added on "Al-Mamlaka" that the Ministry of Agriculture focuses on multi-level rainwater harvesting systems, cautioning against the rapid flow of water over the soil.
Balawneh noted that the ministry has implemented between four to five thousand wells over the past five years.
He emphasized that the rainfall serves agriculture and does not negatively affect it, advising farmers to start sowing to take advantage of the season and give plants their full chance to grow.
Balawneh talked about conveying weather forecasts to farmers to adapt to weather conditions, such as not directing rainwater directly onto crops, and also giving advice to livestock breeders, especially regarding the importance of protecting newborns in low temperatures.
The Meteorological Department said on Sunday that the Ghour Al-Safi area has achieved 100% of its rainfall season.
The Meteorological Department added to "Al-Mamlaka" that Jordan was affected by the first weather depression of the winter season, which contributed to boosting the rainfall season by percentages ranging between 1% and 15% of the general seasonal average.
It indicated that during the remaining hours of the day, Jordan will experience light rainfalls in most regions, gradually subsiding during the late night hours.
The Kingdom will be affected on Tuesday by another weather depression centered to the east of Cyprus, where the weather will be cloudy, cold, and rainy, especially in the north and central regions and parts of the southwestern regions, according to the Meteorological Department.
It explained that this depression is characterized by its speed and good effectiveness, with expectations of heavy rainfall during the daytime in the north and central parts and parts of the southwestern regions, then gradually weakening during the night hours.
The Meteorology confirmed that there is still a chance for light rainfall on Tuesday morning in the north and central regions, with conditions stabilizing from noon onwards.
It pointed out that the recent depressions have significantly improved the performance in the rainy season, especially in the northern, central, and southwestern parts of the Kingdom.
The Meteorological Department indicated that preliminary readings suggest that the Kingdom will be affected by another depression on Thursday.
