The Mozambican national team achieved its first win in its history of participating in the Africa Cup of Nations after defeating the Gabon national team 3-2 on Sunday in the second round of Group Six at the Morocco 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
The thrilling first half ended with Mozambique leading two goals to one, as the Mozambican team surprised everyone with two goals by Faisal Bengal in the 38th minute and Jeini Katamo from a penalty in the 42nd minute.
At minute 45+5, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, star and top scorer of the Gabon national team, managed to score his country's first goal.
In the second half, specifically in the 52nd minute, Kalila managed to score Mozambique's third goal.
The excitement in the match increased as it entered its final turn, with Alex Mukito Musonda scoring the second Gabonese goal in the 76th minute.
This is Mozambique's first-ever win in the history of its participation in the Africa Cup of Nations, which started in 1986 in Egypt. Prior to the current edition, the Mozambican team had played 15 matches, winning none, and drawing four. Notably, in the first round of Group Six, Mozambique had lost 1-0 to the reigning champions, Côte d'Ivoire.
With this, the Mozambican national team raised its points to three, while the Gabon national team faced its second defeat in the tournament, having lost its first match within Group Six to Cameroon by a clean goal.
