Egypt responds to Israeli announcement and refuses to compromise Somali sovereignty

Khaberni - Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration Badr Abdel Ati reaffirmed today, Saturday, Egypt's full support for the unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Somalia and its legitimate institutions, condemning any unilateral actions that could undermine Somali sovereignty, and denouncing attempts to impose parallel entities that conflict with the unity of the Somali state.

Abdel Ati expressed Egypt's strong rejection and condemnation of the violation of established principles of international law and the UN charter, following Israel's announcement on Friday recognizing "Somaliland".

Abdel Ati also agreed with his Norwegian counterpart Espen Barth Eide, in a phone call today, on the importance of respecting the sovereignty and territorial unity of states to preserve the stability of the international system.

The Egyptian minister rejected any practices that could undermine the unity of Palestinian territories or impose new realities in the occupied West Bank.

A spokesperson for the Egyptian Foreign Ministry stated in a press release that the ministers exchanged views and assessments concerning a number of regional developments, primarily the situation in the Gaza Strip, where Abdel Ati emphasized the importance of international efforts to ensure the enforcement of the ceasefire agreement and transition to the second phase of US President Trump's plan.

Abdel Ati decried the ongoing settlement expansion in the West Bank, emphasizing the need for the international community to play its role in stopping escalation in the West Bank and settler attacks against Palestinian civilians.

He highlighted the necessity of ensuring the delivery of humanitarian aid to the residents of the Gaza Strip, facilitating the environment necessary for early recovery and reconstruction, commending the Norwegian position supporting the Palestinian cause and the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.

The spokesperson added that the call addressed the situation in Sudan, where the Minister of Foreign Affairs informed his Norwegian counterpart of the Egyptian efforts within the framework of the Quad to achieve a comprehensive ceasefire.
