Khaberni - Official media reported on Friday that Iran detained a foreign oil tanker near the Iranian island of Qeshm in the Gulf and claimed it was carrying four million liters of smuggled fuel.
The authorities did not mention the name of the ship or disclose its nationality, and said that 16 foreign crew members had been detained on criminal charges.
The state television reported that the tanker had been detained on Wednesday.
Iranian news websites posted video clips and photos of what they said was the detained tanker.
Last week, Tehran reported that it had detained another foreign tanker carrying six million liters of what it described as smuggled fuel in the Gulf of Oman, without specifying the identity of the ship or its nationality.
Iran, which has some of the world's lowest fuel prices due to significant subsidies and a sharp decline in the value of its national currency, seeks to curb widespread fuel smuggling by land to neighboring countries and by sea to Gulf states.
