Arrest of the Former Georgian Defense Minister Following the Presidential Palace Storming Events

Khaberni - The Georgian Deputy Head of State Security, Lasha Maghradze, announced the arrest of former Defense Minister Bachana Akhalaia, who served during the presidency of Mikheil Saakashvili.

Deputy Head of State Security Lasha Maghradze said: "Based on the collected evidence, the identity of the main organizer of the October 4th events in Georgia was confirmed."

He added, "Accordingly, we arrested Bachana (Bacho) Akhalaia, and the former minister's wife, Ani Nadarishvili, was also arrested and later released, but the case against her is still ongoing."

In early October, thirteen people were arrested in Georgia on suspicion of attempting a coup, coinciding with the local elections held on October 4th, where citizens elected mayors and members of municipal councils.

In Tbilisi, the opposition held a protest that escalated into clashes with security forces. During these clashes, tear gas was used, several people were injured, and demonstrators attempted to storm the presidency headquarters.

The Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Kobakhidze, accused the United National Movement party of former President Mikheil Saakashvili of attempting to organize a Maidan in the country for the fifth time.
