Iranian Researcher Warns The Most Likely Scenario Is an Israeli Attack on Iran

Khaberni - An Iranian researcher residing in the United States, in an interview with the Israeli "N12" channel, warned that ambiguity and unclear communication between Iran and Israel pose a major threat that could escalate, pointing to the most likely scenario being an Israeli initiative to attack.

Dr. Arash Azizi, a lecturer at Yale University specializing in the history of Iranian-Israeli relations, confirmed a real risk of military confrontation in the short to medium term, attributing this to "paralysis" in decision-making in Tehran and unclear Iranian policy.

Azizi stated that "uncertainty might give the Israelis an incentive to attack," ruling out the likelihood of a preemptive Iranian attack, and considering that a limited Israeli attack could be met with a similar limited Iranian response like those that occurred in April and October of the previous year, but he cautioned that a new confrontation could be "devastating" for Tehran both humanely and militarily.

He noted that the main threat lies in the absence of direct communication channels between the two sides, amid ongoing advancements in Iran's nuclear and missile programs, despite a decline in Iran’s support for armed groups in the region.

Inside Iran, there is fear of a new war among the populace and decision-makers, with a sense of instability, while Azizi sees that some voices in Israel seek regime change in Tehran, but the Israeli security apparatus does not take this seriously.

Regarding the role of the United States, he described it as inconsistent due to President Donald Trump's fluctuations, which might restrain Netanyahu's impulsiveness or give a green light for Israel if he perceives Iran as crossing "red lines".

It is noted that the Iranian red lines include defending the right to enrichment and missile capability, which many - even opponents of the regime - view as necessary for defending the country.

This warning comes amidst an ongoing Israeli escalation against Iranian targets in the region, and amidst rising tensions following the "12-day war" between Israel and Iran.
