Khaberni - Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Al-Sheibani and Defense Minister Marhaf Abu Qasra met in Moscow with Russian President Vladimir Putin, in a meeting that discussed various political, military, and economic issues of mutual interest between the two countries, with special focus on strategic cooperation in the field of military industries.
The two sides discussed ways to develop military and technical partnerships during the meeting, aiming to enhance the defensive capabilities of the Syrian army, keep up with recent developments in military industries, especially in the areas of military equipment modernization, transfer of technical and technological expertise, and cooperation in research and development, which will enhance the national defense system and support security and stability in Syria and the region.
On the political front, the parties discussed the latest regional and international developments, affirming the importance of political and diplomatic coordination between Damascus and Moscow in international forums.
The two sides stressed the need to respect the principles of international law and reject foreign interventions in the internal affairs of countries.
On the economic side, they discussed the prospects of expanding economic and trade cooperation between the two countries, including supporting reconstruction projects, developing infrastructure sectors, encouraging investments in Syria, in addition to enhancing trade exchange and facilitating partnerships, which positively reflect on the Syrian economy and contribute to improving living conditions.
Putin confirmed during the meeting Russia's steadfast support for Syria, emphasizing the importance of maintaining Syria's territorial unity and full sovereignty, and rejecting any projects aimed at dividing the country or affecting its independent national decision.
Moscow also renewed its position rejecting Israel's repeated violations of Syrian territory, considering them a direct threat to the stability and security of the region.
