Video Moment of Arrest of the Algerian Computer Thief Who Baffled British Security

Khaberni - British authorities arrested an Algerian migrant who carried out a series of thefts targeting pub-goers in the capital, London, where he stole laptops, phones, and bags totaling 20,000 British pounds in just two months.

Cameras recorded the moments of Ghilas's arrest on September 25, when he attempted to flee from the police in one of London's busy streets, where the suspect ran pushing the officers, but he collided with a parked silver Mercedes before falling to the asphalt, where the police were able to control him and seize a phone he was carrying.

According to the "Daily Mail", Mounir Ghilas, 28 years old, carried out 16 separate theft operations between August 5 and September 25, 2025, targeting upscale pubs in the financial district of the capital.

Surveillance cameras captured the moments when the suspect sneaked among the customers who were busy talking after work hours, focusing his gaze on the bags left on the tables before swooping on them and quickly exiting the venue.

For his part, Ghilas confessed to 16 counts of theft and assaulting a female police officer during the arrest, as well as possession of stolen goods belonging to Rodney Melville & Partners architectural firm.

A police officer from the Volume Crimes Unit of the City of London Police described the suspect as a "professional thief" who targets valuable properties without any signs of stopping.

Ghilas is scheduled to appear before Southwark Crown Court on January 13 to determine the duration of his sentence, where Judge Alexander Milne confirmed the defendant remains in custody until the verdict is pronounced.
