Khaberni - The Prime Minister of the Libyan National Unity Government, Abdel Hamid Dbeibah, announced the death of the Libyan Army General Staff Chief Mohammed Al-Haddad and his companions after a tragic accident involving the plane that was carrying them during their return from an official visit to the Turkish capital, Ankara.
Dbeibah stated in a tribute to the victims that the accident resulted in the death of the Chief of the Land Forces Staff, Lieutenant General Faitouri Gribil, and the Director of the Military Manufacturing Device, Brigadier General Mahmoud Al-Qatwi, in addition to the Chief of Staff's Advisor Mohammed Al-Assawi, and the photographer in the Media Office of the General Staff, Mohammed Omar Ahmed Mahjoub.
The Libyan High Council of State also issued a statement mourning the Chief of Staff and his companions.
In Ankara, the Turkish Interior Minister, Ali Yerlikaya, announced that Turkish emergency teams had reached the wreckage of the plane in the Himana area south of the capital, Ankara, confirming that investigations into the circumstances of the accident had begun.
The plane that crashed was a "Falcon 50", and it was heading from Ankara to Tripoli and had requested an emergency landing in the Ankara region, but communication with it was lost thereafter.
Mohammed Al-Haddad and his military career
Mohammed Al-Haddad has been the Chief of the General Staff of the Libyan Army since 2020 and was one of the most prominent military leaders in the post-February 17th revolution period.
Al-Haddad is from the city of Misrata (200 kilometers east of the capital, Tripoli), and played a pivotal role in efforts to unify the Libyan military institution, participating in meetings of the Joint Military Committee (5+5).
Al-Haddad's name became prominent during the defense against the attack on Tripoli in 2019, in addition to his participation in containing several military conflicts that occurred in the capital and areas in Western Libya, making him an influential figure in both military and political scenes within the National Unity Government.
