Ghosheh Data Card the First Defense Line in Handling Hazardous Chemicals

Khaberni - The Industrial Advisory Committee in the Chemical Engineering Division of the Jordan Engineers Association held a scientific symposium under the title «Safe Management of Hazardous Chemicals and the Role of the Data Card in Prevention and Protection» sponsored by the Chief of Engineers, Engineer Abdullah Asim Ghosheh.

The Chief of Engineers affirmed that organizing this symposium reflects a professional awareness of the size of the challenges facing the industrial and service sectors, emphasizing that safety is no longer a formal procedure or administrative commitment, but has become an integrated work approach, an institutional culture, and a national and ethical responsibility before being a legislative requirement.

He pointed out that hazardous chemicals, despite their vital role in supporting production and industrial development, entail grave risks if mishandled or in the absence of wise scientific management, explaining that the essence of engineering work lies in managing risks, analyzing scenarios, and building proactive safety systems that protect humans, the environment, and the national economy.

He noted that the Engineers Association, through the Chemical Engineering Division and the Industrial Advisory Committee, pays special attention to the chemical safety file, recognizing the pivotal role played by the chemical engineer and the industrial engineer in building an integrated risk management system, based on the integration of legislation, proper engineering application, technical supervision, and continuous training.

On her part, the head of the Chemical Engineering Division, Dr. Linda Al-Hamoud, said that the symposium constitutes a real platform for dialogue and exchange of experiences among engineers, official and regulatory bodies, representatives of the industrial sector, experts, and specialists, affirming that this file is no longer a professional option or a regulatory procedure, but has become a professional, ethical, and humanitarian responsibility.

Al-Hamoud emphasized that dealing with chemicals must be based on prior readiness and a culture of prevention, not on reaction, affirming that the role of the chemical engineer goes beyond technical knowledge to include making sound decisions and building a safe work environment where safety is part of daily practice.

In turn, the head of the Industrial Advisory Committee, Engineer Zeinab Abu Zaid, affirmed that the topic of the symposium is one of the vital issues in the industrial and engineering sectors, due to its direct impact on the safety of workers, protection of facilities, preservation of the environment, and public health, pointing out the committee's commitment to enhancing networking with related national entities to unify efforts and raise awareness of chemical safety.

The symposium included specialized lectures addressing the role of the data card for chemicals in prevention and protection, the use of preventive guides in the safe management of hazardous materials, operational safety and handling of chemicals in ports, in addition to the regulations governing and the role of the Ministry of Environment in managing hazardous materials and waste.

The symposium witnessed in-depth interactions and discussions reflecting the engineers' interest in the importance of applying chemical safety standards in various work environments.

The workshop saw significant participation from chemical engineers working in various ministries, companies, and institutions.
