Khaberni - American President Donald Trump stated on Monday that the United States needs Greenland for national security and must acquire it.
Trump, speaking to reporters at his Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida, said: "We need Greenland for national security, not for the minerals."
He added: "We have many sites for minerals, oil, and everything. We have more oil than any other country in the world."
Trump explained: "We need Greenland for reasons related to national security. If you look at Greenland, from its top to bottom coast, you will see Russian and Chinese ships everywhere. We need it for our national security. We must acquire it."
He concluded saying: "Jeff Landry wanted to lead on this issue. Therefore, we are appointing him today as the special envoy to Greenland. Greenland is a very big deal."
Trump had repeatedly called during the first months of his return to the White House to impose American jurisdiction over Greenland, and did not rule out using military force to take control of the mineral-rich, strategically located polar island.
This issue had faded from the headlines in recent months, but last August, Danish officials summoned the American ambassador following a report that at least three people connected to Trump had carried out secret influence operations in Greenland.
Earlier this year, Vice President JD Vance visited a remote American military base on the island and accused Denmark of reducing investments there.
