The Asian Football Confederation has announced that it has decided in principle to launch an Asian Nations League in a proposed championship aimed at ensuring the hosting of regular and valuable international matches during international match windows, enhancing the competitive balance through level-based encounters, and improving cost efficiency through centralized coordination, alongside providing clearer progress pathways for national teams.
Dato Windsor John, the General Secretary of the Asian Football Confederation, stated: "The Asian Nations League represents an important step forward in our ongoing commitment to supporting the development of our 47 member associations"
He added: "By providing a structured competitive platform through international match windows, with greater calendar stability and clear sporting incentives, we aim to ensure regular access to high-quality matches, while addressing the logistical and cost-related challenges faced by national teams."
The Asian Football Confederation concluded its statement by noting that it will discuss further details related to the championship system, the schedule, and implementation mechanisms, through the relevant committees of the federation and consultations with various parties, with announcements to be made at the appropriate time.
