Italy witnesses largest security crackdown 384 arrested and 14 tons of drugs in police custody

On Saturday, the Italian police said they arrested 384 people and seized 1.4 tons of drugs in a widespread operation to combat the drug trade.

The police stated in a statement that in addition to the arrests, 655 people including 39 minors were placed under investigation and 35 kilograms of cocaine and more than 40 firearms were confiscated.

The operation, which concluded on Friday and covered several regions, temporarily closed five cannabis shops in three cities after 312 inspections.

During the inspections, the police stated they found 296 kilograms of cannabis products which preliminary tests indicated were illegal drugs.

It is worth mentioning that in June, Italy approved a security decree that bans what is known as "legal cannabis" and prohibits the trade of "light cannabis," which unlike marijuana does not have psychoactive effects.
