The Syrian Ministry of Interior announced today, Saturday, the arrest of several individuals involved in arms smuggling for what it described as outlaw groups in Sweida Province in the south of the country and areas where the so-called Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) are located, as well as cells linked to ISIS.
The ministry stated that the specialized security units in the Internal Security Command of Damascus Countryside, in cooperation with the Internal Security Command in Daraa Governorate, carried out a special security operation in the area of Qudssaya in Damascus Countryside, which resulted in the arrest of 5 individuals involved in arms smuggling.
The ministry quoted the commander of the internal security in Damascus Countryside, Ahmad Al-Dalati, saying that the operation was carried out after receiving precise information about suspicious activity inside a farm, where the security force immediately moved to the location and imposed a tight cordon before carrying out the raid.
Al-Dalati explained that the operation resulted in the seizure of "FPV" type drones with all their accessories, bags of explosives of the "TNT" type weighing 1.5 tons, and anti-personnel devices each weighing two kilograms, which were prepared for use in suicide drones.
Al-Dalati confirmed that all the confiscated items were seized, while those arrested were referred to the competent authorities to complete the investigations in preparation for their referral to the competent judiciary to take the necessary legal measures against them.
The security units, three days ago in cooperation with the General Intelligence Agency, carried out an operation targeting an ISIS stronghold in the Damr neighborhood of Damascus, which resulted in the arrest of one of its elements and the seizure of prepared explosive devices, in addition to various weapons and ammunition, suicide drones, and explosive materials used in equipping these drones for explosive purposes.
For several days, Syrian security agencies have been conducting security operations against ISIS cells, and two operations in Idlib in the north of the country resulted in the arrest of elements from the organization and the seizure of a collection of weapons and explosives.
