The Wall Street Journal revealed details of a new American proposal called "Project Sunrise", aimed at transforming the Gaza Strip from a devastated area into a modern city and a luxury tourist resort on the Mediterranean coast.
This project is led by President Trump's son-in-law, Jared Kushner, and the U.S. Middle East envoy, Steve Whitcov, where the team has drafted an initial plan that includes a strategic vision to transform the sector into a technological metropolis featuring luxury beach resorts, high-speed trains, and smart electricity grids enhanced with artificial intelligence.
The 32-page plan includes proposals to move Gaza residents from tents to modern residential towers, and transitioning from poverty to economic prosperity, with the United States committing to cover about 20% of the reconstruction costs over 10 years, while additional funding is sought from Gulf states, Turkey, and Egypt.
Despite the ambitious plan, U.S. officials have expressed doubts about its realism, particularly regarding the requirements for disarming Hamas as a precondition for initiation, as well as challenges of convincing donor countries to bear the large bill to transform a conflict zone into an advanced technological oasis serving millions of displaced people.
