Khaberni - The Russian Foreign Ministry expressed its support for Moscow's approach by Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro in protecting Venezuela's interests and sovereignty, calling on Washington to prevent further sliding into a situation that forebodes dire consequences.
The statement from the Russian Foreign Ministry stated: "We observe the continuous and deliberate escalation of tension around friendly Venezuela. The unilateral nature of these decisions, which pose a threat to international navigation, is of great concern to us."
The statement continued: "We consistently call for the normalization of dialogue between Washington and Caracas, and we are convinced of the necessity to take steps towards calming the situation and finding constructive solutions to the existing problems and disputes, while respecting international legal standards."
The ministry pointed to the necessity of "keeping Latin America and the Caribbean as a zone of peace, ensuring stable and independent development for the countries of the region."
It added: "We expect the administration of President Donald Trump, known for its rational and practical approach, to avoid making a grave mistake and preventing further sliding into a situation that forebodes dire consequences for the entire Western Hemisphere. We call for not being drawn behind ideological biases that narrow your perspective on what is happening."
The American President previously announced the designation of the Venezuelan regime as a "foreign terrorist organization," and imposed a blockade on all oil tankers entering or leaving Venezuela.
Trump said that Venezuela is now "completely surrounded by the largest naval fleet ever assembled in the history of South America," and that the American fleet deployed in its vicinity will be strengthened in the coming phase.
