11 injured in artillery shelling on Gaza City

Khaberni - 11 Palestinians were injured on Wednesday by Israeli artillery fire targeting an area in Gaza City from which the Israeli army had previously withdrawn under a ceasefire agreement.

Medical sources reported that 11 injured arrived at hospitals in the sector following the Israeli shelling.

Eye witnesses said that an artillery shell fell in the midst of a gathering of citizens in the Al-Samer area of Gaza City.

The targeted area falls within the regions from which the Israeli army withdrew under the first phase of the ceasefire agreement and the exchange of prisoners with the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) that came into effect on October 10, last year.

The Israeli occupation army still controls the southern and eastern strips of the sector, in addition to large parts of northern Gaza, continuing its occupation of about 60% of the area of the sector.

Israeli Claims
For its part, the Israeli army claimed that the shelling of Gaza City resulted from a shell that deviated from its course and not from an air raid, noting that while a piece of infrastructure was being destroyed in an area inside the yellow line (referring to the areas it still occupies), one of the shells greatly deviated from its path, and instead of hitting the target, hit the center of Gaza City.

Israel continues its violations of the ceasefire agreement it signed with Hamas, committing hundreds of breaches and killing 394 Palestinians by last Thursday, according to official sources in the sector.

The genocidal war waged by Israel in Gaza - which began on October 8, 2023, and lasted for two years - resulted in more than 70,000 martyrs and over 171,000 injured, most of whom are children and women.

In addition to the martyrs - most of whom are children and women - Israel caused massive destruction in Gaza, with the cost of reconstruction estimated by the United Nations at approximately 70 billion dollars.
