Millions in donations for a Syrian Australian man who disarmed the attacker in the Bondi attack in Sydney

Khaberni - Pledges of financial aid continued for the Syrian Ahmad Al-Ahmad (44 years old), who disarmed one of the attackers in the Sydney attack.

Last Sunday, two people fired at a crowd during the celebration of the Jewish festival "Hanukkah" on Bondi Beach, resulting in 15 people killed and dozens injured.

A fundraising page created by Australians who had never met Al-Ahmad attracted donations from about 40,000 people, totaling 3.2 million Australian dollars (about 1.5 million US dollars) by last Tuesday evening. Among the supporters is billionaire hedge fund manager William Ackman, who pledged to donate 99,000 Australian dollars.

Al-Ahmad, who is married with two daughters, is facing a long struggle in the future, according to people who spoke with him since last Sunday's massacre. He was shot several times in his left arm, apparently by the second gunman in the attack who fired randomly from a pedestrian bridge.

The media director at the "Australians for Syria" association, who visited Al-Ahmad in the hospital late on the past Monday, said that he had already undergone surgery and more surgeries are scheduled.
