Khaberni - Prime Minister Jafar Hassan chaired, on Wednesday at the Prime Minister's headquarters, the first meeting of the preparatory committee for the preparation of the executive program to reduce random waste disposal.
During the meeting, the Prime Minister emphasized that behaviors associated with random waste disposal are unacceptable and must not be left without deterrence, stressing that maintaining public cleanliness is a shared responsibility between institutions and citizens.
The Prime Minister directed the ministries and concerned bodies to increase general cleanliness campaigns, in addition to enforcing and applying the law against violators who dispose of waste randomly.
He pointed out the need for the efforts of public cleanliness institutions to be continuous and not seasonal, emphasizing the importance of synchronizing these efforts with awareness campaigns in schools, universities, places of worship, and the media.
The Prime Minister also directed to intensify the role of municipalities and ministries and the Greater Amman Municipality in monitoring random waste disposal and construction debris, ensuring their proper disposal, and addressing any violations without hesitation, highlighting the importance of including electronic monitoring as an essential part of the system for maintaining the environment and public cleanliness.
The executive program to reduce random waste disposal, which is based on an institutional collaborative effort that includes all provinces and regions of the kingdom, was presented during the meeting.
The Cabinet had decided in its session held last Sunday to form a steering committee to prepare and follow up on the implementation of the executive program to reduce random waste disposal for the years 2026-2027.
The committee was tasked with coordinating with the competent authorities to include in the program the necessary actions to improve the level of cleanliness in public places, launch national awareness campaigns, enhance surveillance, and enforce laws and related legislations, as part of the government's efforts to promote positive environmental behavior and improve public cleanliness in various regions of the kingdom.
The committee was formed under the chairmanship of the Minister of Environment, with members including ministers of Local Administration, Public Works and Housing, Government Communication, Endowments and Islamic Affairs, Interior, Finance, Agriculture, Tourism and Antiquities, and the Chairman of the Greater Amman Committee, and the Director of Public Security.
