Khaberni - Egypt condemned today, Wednesday, with "the strongest terms the continuation of Israel, the occupying power, in its illegal settlement policies, and most recently the approval of the legalization and establishment of 19 new settlements in the occupied West Bank."
Egypt said in a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs today that this "constitutes a flagrant violation of the provisions of international law and relevant international legitimacy resolutions, including Security Council resolutions that affirm the illegality of settlements in the Palestinian territories occupied since 1967."
Egypt reiterated its "total rejection of all forms of settlement expansion, considering it a major obstacle to achieving a two-state solution and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state along the lines of June 4, 1967 with East Jerusalem as its capital."
Egypt called on "the international community to assume its legal and moral responsibilities, and to take effective measures to stop these violations, and to protect the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, contributing to the revival of the political process and achieving a just, comprehensive, and lasting peace in the Middle East."
