Israel Prevents Canadian Delegation from Visiting the West Bank

Khaberni - Israel, on Tuesday, prevented a special Canadian delegation that included 6 parliament members from entering the occupied West Bank.

The Israeli Embassy in Canada said the delegation was denied entry because of its affiliation with "Islamic Relief Worldwide," a non-governmental organization that Israel classifies as a terrorist group.

Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand wrote in a social media post that Canada has expressed "objections to the mistreatment of these Canadians."

Ontario MP Iqra Khalid, from Prime Minister Mark Carney's Liberal Party, added that she was part of the delegation and was pushed several times by Israeli border officials.

She explained that she was pushed while trying to check on one of the delegation members, who was part of a group of about 30 people and was pulled for further interrogation after the delegation was at the Allenby border crossing between Jordan and the occupied West Bank by Israel.

Iqra Khalid said that the border officials recognized her as a member of the parliament, where they took her special passport, which looks different from regular Canadian documents.

The Israeli embassy stated in its statement that Israel "will not allow the entry of organizations and individuals associated with entities classified as terrorist."

The delegation was planning to meet displaced Palestinians in the West Bank, where the Israeli government recently approved the construction of 764 new homes in Jewish settlements.
