Study Electronic Cigarettes Double the Risk of Heart Attack for Former Smokers

Khaberni - Khaberni - A recent study revealed that using electronic cigarettes as a substitute for smoking may not be as safe as some think. The study linked electronic smoking via vaporizing devices with an increased risk of heart attacks in individuals who had previously smoked traditional cigarettes.

According to "Soury Life", the recent study collected data from 12 previous studies, which included large samples.

Electronic cigarettes are portable devices that heat a liquid, usually containing nicotine and flavors, allowing users to inhale vapor instead of smoke.

Because these devices do not burn tobacco, it is believed that users are not exposed to the same levels of chemicals found in traditional cigarettes.

Myocardial infarction

However, the new study conducted by the National Institute for Cancer Prevention and Research in India showed that electronic cigarette users are 1.53 times more likely to suffer myocardial infarction and 1.05 times more likely to suffer a stroke compared to non-users.

Furthermore, electronic cigarette users who were accustomed to smoking traditional cigarettes are more than twice as likely to suffer heart attacks and 1.73 times more likely to suffer strokes compared to non-users.

These findings suggest that electronic cigarettes may increase the risk of myocardial infarction and stroke even after considering the effects of traditional cigarette smoking.

The researchers stressed the need for more studies to confirm these results and to provide advice to policymakers regarding the health effects of using electronic cigarettes.
